What is root canal treatment?
Inside every tooth is a soft tissue called the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When the pulp becomes infected or inflamed — due to deep decay, a cracked tooth, or trauma — it can cause significant pain and, if left untreated, lead to abscess or tooth loss. Root canal treatment removes the infected pulp, cleans and shapes the canals inside the root, and seals the tooth to prevent reinfection. A crown is usually placed afterwards to restore the tooth's strength and appearance.

How many appointments does root canal treatment take?

Is it better to extract the tooth instead?
We always prefer to save a natural tooth where possible. Root canal treatment preserves the tooth and avoids the need for an implant, bridge, or denture to fill the gap. Tooth loss can cause neighbouring teeth to shift and bone to shrink over time, making extraction a more complex long-term issue.
What happens after root canal treatment?
You may experience mild tenderness for a few days, which settles with over-the-counter pain relief. We'll recommend a crown to protect the tooth and restore it to full function. With proper care, a root canal-treated tooth can last as long as your natural teeth.
Does health insurance cover root canal treatment?
