Cosmetic Dentistry

At Yass Valley Dental, we offer a range of cosmetic dental services designed to address concerns about the appearance of your teeth and smile. Our team takes a considered, patient-centred approach — beginning with a thorough consultation to understand your concerns, assess your oral health, and discuss the options that may be appropriate for your individual circumstances.

We encourage all patients to take the time to consider their options carefully. A consultation does not commit you to any treatment. We will explain the nature of each procedure, the associated risks, and realistic expectations before any decision is made.

Important: Cosmetic dental procedures, including veneers and facial injectables, carry risks. Individual outcomes vary. A consultation is required before any cosmetic treatment is undertaken. This information is general in nature and does not constitute dental or medical advice.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Professional teeth whitening is a procedure that uses clinically formulated whitening agents to reduce the appearance of staining on natural tooth enamel. The degree of whitening achieved depends on the nature and depth of the staining and varies between individuals. Whitening does not alter the colour of crowns, veneers, or composite restorations.

At Yass Valley Dental, we offer an in-chair whitening procedure followed by a take-home maintenance kit. A dental examination is recommended before commencing whitening to ensure your teeth and gums are in suitable condition.

Porcelain and Composite Veneers

Veneers are thin coverings placed over the front surface of a tooth to alter its appearance in terms of colour, shape, or size. Veneers are classified as a higher-risk cosmetic dental procedure. As with all higher-risk cosmetic procedures, a thorough consultation is required before proceeding.

We offer both ceramic (porcelain) veneers, which are laboratory-fabricated and typically more durable, and direct composite veneers, which are applied chair-side in a single visit. Your treating dentist will explain the differences, the preparation required for each type, the associated risks, and the realistic expectations for each option at your consultation.

Smile Design and Treatment Planning

For patients with multiple cosmetic concerns, we offer a consultation-based smile design process. This involves a comprehensive assessment of your teeth, gums, and bite, followed by a discussion of the treatment options that may address your concerns. Digital planning tools may be used to assist in visualising proposed changes, though these representations are illustrative only and do not constitute a guarantee of outcome.

Composite Bonding

Composite bonding involves the application and shaping of tooth-coloured resin material to alter the appearance of a tooth. It is a less invasive option compared to veneers and does not typically require removal of tooth structure. It is suitable for certain presentations including minor chips, gaps, or surface irregularities, and is assessed on a case-by-case basis at consultation.

Ceramic Crowns

Ceramic crowns may serve both restorative and cosmetic purposes. Where a tooth requires both structural restoration and an improvement in appearance, a ceramic crown may be considered. The decision to place a crown is made on clinical grounds following examination and discussion of the options with the patient.

Facial Injectables

We offer facial injectable treatments, including anti-wrinkle injections, administered by qualified dental practitioners. These are higher-risk non-surgical cosmetic procedures subject to AHPRA regulations. Please refer to our dedicated Facial Injectables page for full information, including the consultation requirements, risks, and frequently asked questions.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. All cosmetic dental treatment at Yass Valley Dental begins with a consultation. This allows us to assess your oral health, understand your concerns, and discuss the options that may be appropriate for your circumstances. A consultation does not commit you to any treatment.

Your treating dentist will assess your teeth, gums, and bite during your consultation and explain which options may be appropriate given your specific circumstances. We will present the options available, explain how each one works, and outline the associated risks and realistic expectations. The decision is always yours.

Coverage varies depending on your health fund and level of cover. Some cosmetic treatments with a restorative component — such as a crown — may attract a partial benefit under major dental extras. Purely cosmetic procedures are generally not covered. We recommend checking with your health fund before your appointment. We process on-the-spot HICAPS claims.

Yes. All dental procedures carry some degree of risk, and cosmetic procedures are no exception. Risks vary depending on the procedure and your individual circumstances. For higher-risk procedures such as veneers and injectables, we will conduct a thorough consultation, discuss the specific risks involved, and obtain your informed consent before proceeding. We encourage patients to ask questions and to take the time they need before making a decision.

We encourage all patients to discuss their concerns with us directly in the first instance. If you have a complaint about your treatment, you can also contact AHPRA at ahpra.gov.au. Your right to make a complaint is not affected by any documentation you may sign.

Important: Any dental or medical procedure carries risks. Before proceeding with cosmetic dental treatment, you should discuss the nature of the procedure, the associated risks, and the realistic expectations with your treating practitioner. Individual results vary and cannot be guaranteed. Any images displayed on this page are real and unedited.
