About Yass Valley Dental

Yass Valley Dental has been caring for this community since 1903.

For more than a century, the practice has grown around the same idea: people living in Yass and the surrounding region should be able to access high-quality dental care close to home.

Today, we operate seven chairs across two locations.

Our Yass clinic remains on the site the practice has occupied for generations. It has been renovated throughout while keeping the building that many local families have known for years.

Our Murrumbateman clinic was purpose-built for modern dentistry and serves patients from the village, surrounding areas and Canberra.

Both clinics are equipped to the same standard and follow the same approach: when patients would otherwise need to leave the region for care, we look at whether we can bring that capability here instead.

That approach has shaped the services we provide, the skills we have developed and the technology we have invested in.

Technology that keeps more care local

Bringing more treatment into the practice requires more than clinical training. It also means having the technology to diagnose, plan and complete more of that treatment locally.

Together, these capabilities allow more of the diagnostic, planning and treatment process to take place in Yass or Murrumbateman. Patients are less likely to need separate trips elsewhere for scans or laboratory work, and more of their treatment can be completed within the practice.

CBCT imaging

Both clinics have their own CBCT scanners, which provide three-dimensional images of the teeth, bone, roots and surrounding structures. We use CBCT imaging when planning procedures such as dental implants, wisdom tooth removal and orthodontic treatment.

Digital scanning

We use intraoral scanners to create accurate 3D models of the teeth without traditional impression trays. The scan takes only a few minutes and creates a digital record that can be used to compare changes over time.

In-house ceramics

Our milling machines allow us to produce crowns, inlays and other ceramic restorations on site. A highly experienced ceramist works within the practice, so these restorations can be made here rather than sent to an external laboratory.

In-house 3D printing

We also use 3D printing to produce models, splints, surgical guides and orthodontic appliances within the practice.

A practice built around long-term relationships

The practice has changed considerably over the years, but its relationship with the community has remained much the same.

Our team is local. Our patients are their neighbours, their children’s teachers and the people they see at the market on Saturday.

We see many of the same families year after year.

Dr Yang now treats patients who first came to him as children and have since returned with children of their own. In some families, he has cared for three generations.

That continuity matters because we expect to keep seeing the people we treat for years to come.

We will see them next year, and often many years after that.

That creates a simple standard for the work we do: it should be something we would be comfortable being asked about outside the surgery, not only inside it.

The same sense of responsibility extends beyond the patients who come through our doors.

We work alongside local organisations including The Farm in Galong and Yass Valley Aged Care, helping provide care to people who might otherwise go without it.

You can read more about that work on our community page.

The standards behind the care

That long-term responsibility also affects how the practice is run.

Yass Valley Dental is an accredited dental practice, assessed by Quality Innovation Performance (QIP) under the program established by the Australian Dental Association.

Accreditation is voluntary for private dental practices in Australia.

It means an independent accrediting agency has assessed how the practice operates against the national standards for safety and quality in healthcare, the same framework that applies to hospitals and public dental services.

For us, that matters because many of the most important parts of dental care are difficult for patients to judge from the outside.

Accreditation provides an independent check on areas such as:

Communication with patients

How treatment is explained, how informed consent is obtained and how options and costs are discussed before treatment begins.

Clinical records

How patient information is kept, protected and shared.

Governance and risk

How decisions are made, how incidents are recorded and how the practice responds when something goes wrong.

Infection prevention and sterilisation

Including instrument reprocessing, tracking, water lines and the records that demonstrate compliance with national standards.

Medication safety

How medications are prescribed, stored and recorded.
