Payment Options at Yass Valley Dental

Understanding how health insurance and payment options work can make dental treatment easier to plan.

This guide explains how private health cover works at Yass Valley Dental, which government dental schemes are available, and the different ways treatment can be paid for.

Private health insurance at Yass Valley Dental

Yass Valley Dental accepts all major Australian health funds, including Bupa, HCF, Medibank, ahm, nib, Australian Unity, HBF, GMHBA, Defence Health, Navy Health, Teachers Health, Nurses & Midwives Health, CBHS Health, Peoplecare, HIF and Westfund, among others.

What you can claim will depend on the type of cover you have with your insurer and the treatment you receive. If your policy includes dental extras cover and the treatment is eligible for a benefit, we can usually process the claim through HICAPS, the electronic claiming system used by many Australian health funds, at the time of your appointment.

The available rebate is applied straight away, leaving you to pay any remaining gap.

The amount your insurer contributes depends on your individual policy. Your level of cover, annual limits, waiting periods, the type of treatment and how much of your benefit you have already used can all affect the amount you receive back.

This means two patients having the same dental treatment may receive different rebates, even when they are insured with the same health fund.

Health fund rebates for planned treatment

For larger treatments such as dental implants, crowns, orthodontics or more extensive restorative work, it can be useful to know what your health fund is likely to contribute before treatment begins.

Yass Valley Dental can provide the relevant fees and dental item numbers so you can check the expected benefit with your health fund and get a clearer idea of the remaining out-of-pocket cost.

Government-funded dental care at Yass Valley Dental

Private health insurance is not the only form of support available for dental care. At Yass Valley Dental, eligible patients can also access selected government-funded dental programs.

Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)

Yass Valley Dental participates in the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) for eligible children.

CDBS is an Australian Government program that helps eligible children and teenagers access basic dental care.

For children beginning a new two-year benefit period in 2026, the current benefit cap is up to $1,158 over two calendar years.

Eligible services can include:

Orthodontic and cosmetic treatment are not covered under CDBS.

At Yass Valley Dental, eligible CDBS treatment is bulk billed on the day of your child’s appointment.

The amount available depends on the child’s current benefit period and how much of the allowance has already been used.

DVA dental care

Yass Valley Dental also accepts eligible Department of Veterans’ Affairs dental arrangements.

If you are receiving dental care through DVA, you can use that funding at our practice for eligible treatment.

Let our team know when booking so we can check the relevant details before your appointment.

Payment options at Yass Valley Dental

Health insurance and government programs may cover part of the cost of treatment, but there can still be a remaining balance to pay. For patients who would prefer to spread that cost over time, Yass Valley Dental offers several payment options.

These currently include:

  • TLC
  • Zip
  • Afterpay

These services are provided by third-party payment companies rather than by Yass Valley Dental, so eligibility, available limits, repayment terms and any fees are determined by the individual provider.

Which option is most suitable will often depend on the size and type of treatment being planned.

TLC dental finance

TLC provides finance specifically for healthcare and dental treatment.

It can be used for larger treatment plans such as dental implants, orthodontics and cosmetic or restorative dental care.

Because TLC is a separate finance product, applications are made directly through the provider and are subject to its lending criteria, approval process, interest and fees.

For patients considering more substantial treatment, it can provide an alternative to paying the complete cost at once.

Zip and Afterpay

For smaller or shorter-term payment arrangements, Yass Valley Dental also accepts Zip and Afterpay for eligible treatment.

These options allow approved patients to divide treatment costs into repayments rather than paying the full amount upfront.

The amount available, repayment structure and any applicable fees are set by the payment provider.

Using health insurance with a payment plan

For some patients, paying for treatment can involve more than one option.

At Yass Valley Dental, an eligible private health insurance rebate can be processed through HICAPS first, and an approved payment option such as TLC, Zip or Afterpay can then be used towards the remaining balance.

This means you may be able to use your health fund benefit for part of the treatment cost and spread some or all of the remaining gap through one of the available payment providers.

Treatment costs and payment planning

At Yass Valley Dental, we want the cost of treatment to be clear before you decide how to proceed.

If you are planning treatment, you can speak with us at your appointment or contact the practice beforehand to go through the expected fees, relevant dental item numbers and any health fund information that may apply.

If there will be a remaining balance, we can also explain the payment options available if you would prefer to spread the cost.

Your health fund determines the rebate available under your policy, while TLC, Zip and Afterpay set their own approval criteria and payment terms.
